About our workshops

The teacher training workshop series is designed to support your school community and staff with practical tools and techniques to cultivate vital emotional and social skills in the classroom.

Each workshop is designed to be engaging for a duration of 1.5 hours and include the following components:

  • An educational portion where the teachers learn more about child developmental psychology, the science behind emotion, and the importance of EQ skill development in learning
  • A hands-on portion where they learn language to use, different ways to approach big emotions, and have the opportunity to test out their new knowledge in real-life classroom situations.

Research is clear that emotional intelligence development in early childhood begins within positive relationships with adult caregivers. This, of course, not only includes a child’s parents, but also their teachers, with whom they spend the majority of their time. By offering a series of teacher training workshops as professional development, you can further support the growth of emotional intelligence within your school community.

  2. Understanding: Enhancing teachers' understanding of emotional intelligence and its impact on student learning and behavior.

A Brief Introduction to Emotional Intelligence

In this first workshop, teachers will learn:

  • The most updated theory of emotions.
  • The neuroscience behind emotions in the early years.

Throughout the workshop, teachers will have opportunities to:

  • Reflect on their beliefs around emotions.
  • Develop a greater emotional awareness in the classroom.

These new insights will not only empower teachers to deal with their own emotions in a healthy way, but become a positive role model of EQ skills for their students.

Creating a Safe Space

In this practical workshop, teachers will learn:

  • How emotions influence behavior.
  • How to set up their classroom environment to encourage healthy emotional expression.

Throughout the workshop, teachers will have opportunities to:

  • Develop their own “teacher toolkit” of self-regulation tools and techniques.
  • Practice language to use in moments of big emotions.

Teachers will feel more confident in their ability to approach tricky feelings with their students by having a clear “game plan” and supporting student’s EQ development with a safe space for emotional expression, while holding firm behavioral boundaries.

Dealing with Challenging Behavior and Student Conflict

In this applicable workshop, teachers will learn:

  • How to address the root cause of challenging behavior in the classroom.
  • Tips and tricks on how to build skills like patience, impulse control, and assertiveness.

Throughout the workshop, teachers will have opportunities to:

  • Be able to set clear, consistent boundaries.
  • Support students to develop important communication skills

During the application portion, teachers will practice in small groups how to respond to challenges and conflicts between students in different real-life scenarios, through the lens of emotional intelligence development.

Developing a Classroom Culture of a Growth Mindset

Many schools unknowingly encourage a fixed mindset in their approach to education, but not yours!

In this innovative workshop, teachers will learn:

  • The importance of cultivating a growth mindset.
  • How mindset impacts students’ learning.
  • The difference between a fixed and growth mindset.

Throughout the workshop, teachers will have opportunities to:

  • Change their mindset to be more growth-oriented.
  • Speak the language of a growth mindset.

By the end of this workshop, teachers will be able to clearly explain to their students how learning works (from a neuroscience perspective) and how to embrace failure as an essential part of growth.
